Yesterday was Canada Day and it was an exciting day in the city as Prince William and Kate were due to make a visit to the crowds gathered downtown. It was a beautiful day and so we decided to all head down there and see what all the excitement was about.
We arrived just a few minutes before the show was to begin, so as you can imagine there was quite the crowd of people! We bumped-and-wiggled our way through the crowd as far as we could get, but as it turned out it was not nearly close enough to be able to see what was going on.
Will and Kate came by in their fancy carriage, but all we saw was this:
Not all was lost though, because there were three separate flyby’s – one by a pair of CF-18 jets and the other two by snowbirds. Zach was so excited by this and wasn’t scared one bit by all the loud noises!
Safe to say, with how excited Zach (and the rest of us too!) was, we will have to attend an airshow at some point.
After heading home, us three boys had long naps while mama ‘worked’ at the computer. After supper and a snack with family (Ken, Janet, Mom, Amy and Mitch came over), we headed back downtown to see the fireworks. Mom hastily volunteered to stay back and babysit little Patrick, but there was no way Zach was going to stay behind. He was so wide-awake and excited that we were compelled to take him with us, and as it turns out that was a good idea.
We made our way through crowds of obnoxious, drunken, pot-smoking and cursing teenagers until we found a good spot to view the fireworks from. They were really good and Zach loved them. Zach used works like “yahllow” (yellow) and “beeeg” (big) to describe them, and on a few occasions he reached out his hands to tickle them.
